Twenty Years in the Making
I wrote the first version of this story in 2006 — a novel called Vampire Slayer: One Foot in Darkness, published under Dani A. Camden. It drew on Ancient Sumerian roots and vampire lore, with a hunter built like a Bond gadget — an amputee slayer whose prosthetic leg hides stake launchers, iron spikes, and toe daggers.
But it was never supposed to be a novel. This was always meant to be a comic. I just didn't know how to make one back then — I had three kids, and then I became a single mother of four, and they took priority.
The story went into a drawer, but it never went quiet. Twenty years later, I came back to it — not with a second edition, but with the book it was always supposed to be. Comics put the horror right in your hands, and this time I self-published, because I wanted to keep my rights and make it exactly mine.

Dani Soncasie is a horror author, indie comic creator, special effects artist, former salon owner, and mother of four.
She wrote her first novel, Vampire Slayer: One Foot in Darkness (as Dani A. Camden), back in 2006 — and spent the next twenty years figuring out how to tell the story the way it was always meant to be told: as a comic.
