Mickey 17: The Fresh New Sci-Fi We Needed!

Mickey 17 written by Bong Joon Ho and Robert Ashton, directed by Bong Joon Ho, and starring Robert Pattinson, is a welcome breath of fresh air for the big screen science fiction genre!

Following Mickey Barnes's life and exploits after he accepts a position in a deep space colonization expedition as an “Expendable” and leaves Earth, Mickey 17 explores the physical, practical, legal, psychological, and even spiritual ramifications of human cloning, space travel, and First Contact. Bong Joon Ho works side by side with author Robert Ashton to bring Ashton’s novel, Mickey7 to life on the screen. Bong Joon Ho expertly weaves together this subtly complex, surprisingly funny, and compelling story that leaves the audience questioning the morality of the lives of the “Expendables”, the logistics of space travel, and extraterrestrial diplomacy while also fully entertained. 

I highly recommend Mickey 17 to not only die-hard Science Fiction fans but to fans of cinema in general! From Robert Pattinson’s uncanny ability to make us believe he has actually split in two, proving his heavy weight worth acting chops, to the color grading, production design, to even the editing, this film will keep you engaged from the opening scene to the final credits.
